Nga mihi mahana koutou katoa

A warm welcome to you all

Mountview School - Te Maunga i Kitea

We are a school in which 21st Century learning is demonstrated by an experienced and highly skilled group of teachers and support staff

  • Our principles at Mountview are derived from The Treaty of Waitangi, which promotes effective partnership with iwi, hapu and the community. We recognise the importance of developing student awareness of themselves as learners and as individuals. Growth mindset is encouraged for them to reach their full potential; continuing to be lifelong learners who are contributing and valuable members of society.

  • At Mountview we recognise the importance of individuals identity. We value the diversity of staff, students and whanau. Participation and integrity are embedded through the school WHAIA Values.

  • Ngakau mahaki, compassion towards others, is the foundation for relationships at Mountview. We promote inclusive practices which value the diversity of our learning community. Our school is a safe, open and welcoming environment which reflects our core values. Our staff take the time to know our learners in order to provide responsive learning programmes, following an inquiry model.

  • At Mountview School we invest in learner success by reflecting the bi-cultural nature of New Zealand society within our learning environments. Te reo, tikanga and kawa is valued and practised by all members of our community. Teachers and students benefit form accessing knowledge such as korero tawhto; local myths and legends along with understanding how our whakapapa enables us to make connections.

Community Engagement
Mountview School values engaging whanau, we embrace sharing, skills and knowledge that leads to successful outcomes for student learning.

Collaborative Learners
All students at our school will be successful, life long, independent learners and valuable contributing members of society.

Future Focussed
At Mountview School through our teaching pedagogy we place importance on developing key competencies that allow students to successfully function in an ever changing global community.

Responsive Learning Environment

At Mountview School we focus on learning programmes where students drive their own learning and are required to problem solve and work collaboratively using an inquiry approach.  All students receive a responsive learning programme that meets their needs as learners. We use formative assessment and culturally responsive practices within our classroom to engage our students in their learning as well as valuing their well-being.

We are unique, not just in Taupo but also nationally in that we are one of the few schools that offer classrooms in either Te Reo Maori and English mediums. We are dedicated to offering choice to our community in valuing our bi-cultural nation and the importance of this to our students and their education in New Zealand.  We are increasingly becoming multi-cultural as our community brings more ethnicities to Taupo.
