Forward Thinking

We are the forefront of Education and invest time and resources into a variety of iniatives which we believe will enhance the learning experiences of every student at our school

Collaborative Philosophy

A philosophy of education that we call “Collaborative” underpins all that takes place here at Mountview School. This involves children being actively involved in decision-making, establishing the school’s code of conduct with specific rights and responsibilities, setting goals for themselves and the class and assessing their own performance.

Whanau Aspiration Meetings

At Mountview School we value the joint partnership we have with whanau in supporting our students to reach their full potential. We encourage our whanau to have a voice and share in their students learning journey as they progress through their learning years. We do have the expectation that all whanau attend these meetings at the beginning of the year and the aspirations are reflected on during the year by the student.

Open Classroom Evenings

Throughout the year, we offer many opportunities for our students to share their learning with their whanau. Students choose what they want to share and whanau have an opportunity to ask questions of them and their teacher about what they want to know. This allows for a more informal relationship to build between home and school and whanau can hear about their child’s progress in a relaxed and informative way.

21st Century Learning

We have invested a great deal of time and money in ensuring the children at our school receive the very best possible in this area. Our school is up with the best in what is being provided in this field. Every year we inject new computers/tablets into the school. Mountview has in excess of 160 computers in classrooms. Computers are modern tools for learning; they alongside books pens and paper, offer a wider scope of learning experiences and opportunities that are vital in our modern world.

Oral Language

At Mountview School we recognise that oral language is one of the most important skills your child can master, both for social and academic success. Learners use this skill throughout the day to process and deliver instructions, make requests, ask questions, receive new information, think, and interact with their peers. Unfortunately, across New Zealand we are seeing students starting school who are unable to access the curriculum effectively due to gaps in their oral language. Students starting their learning journey at Mountview School are supported to develop the necessary skills in numerous ways.  Oral language lays the foundation for the reading and writing skills children will develop as they enter and progress through our school. Having a solid foundation in oral language will help children become successful readers and strong communicators as well as build their confidence and overall sense of well-being.

Positive Behaviour for Learning: PB4L

Success in learning is supported through this strategy which is school wide and supports students to display positive behaviours inside and outside the classroom as well as in the wider community. Students are encourage to live our values which produces behaviours conducive to learning Achieving as a PB4L school brings both intrinsic and extrinsic rewards but more importantly results in a feeling of success.

At Mountview we work closely in partnership with students, families and the wider community to create a sense of whanaungatanga - a sense of kinship and belonging through shared experiences and working together. Cultural practices, beliefs and behaviours are valued, recognised and respected by all members of the learning community.
