Whanau Engagement
Mountview School values whanau engagement which embraces sharing, skills and knowledge that leads to successful outcomes for student learning
Relationships, Communication and Collaboration
At Mountview School we have year 1-8 classrooms with 310 students. We are able to give options for our parents when they are making decisions about their child’s education. We are one of the few Primary schools in the country and only one in the Taupo area, that can offer both English and Te Reo instruction. Whilst our school is becoming more multi-cultural we are proud in our unique ability to honour the biculturalism in New Zealand. Within our localised curriculum we deliver both the New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aoteroa. We give our students the option of continuing their intermediate years without having to transition to a new school which means their learning is not impeded by having to adjust to new systems and culture.
As all our students learn within the Tuwharetoa rohe an emphasis on cultural values, identify and knowledge of this rohe is fostered. The cultural backgrounds and identity of all students is important at Mountview.
Our students are what makes our school inclusive for all. Our school WHAIA Values are a way of being at Mountview and students new to our school quickly realise that there is zero tolerance for bullying of any kind. All students have identified next learning steps and are given the support they need to succeed in them. Where necessary, outside expertise educational and behaviour is engaged to support the learner in achieving success. Relationships with whanau are important to us and we work together to support students in their educational success.
Cultural Responsiveness
At the heart of our school is recognition and acknowledgement of our identities, strengths and beliefs as people through a holistic approach.
He Tangata, He Tangata, He Tangata.
Whanau Aspiration Meetings
At Mountview School we value the joint partnership we have with whanau in supporting our students to reach their full potential. We encourage our whanau to have a voice and share in their students learning journey as they progress through their learning years. We do have the expectation that all whanau attend these meetings at the beginning of the year and the aspirations are reflected on during the year by the student.
Open Classrooms Evenings
Throughout the year, we offer many opportunities for our students to share their learning with their whanau. Students choose what they want to share and whanau have an opportunity to ask questions of them and their teacher about what they want to know. This allows for a more informal relationship to build between home and school and whanau can hear about their child’s progress in a relaxed and informative way.
Home & School
Mountview has an active Home & School committee that is dedicated to fundraising for our school. New members are always welcome to participate.

Rūmaki
Mountview School offers Level 1 Rūmaki education from year 0-8.
The whānau Rūmaki is a philosophical representation of identify that encompasses the well-being of the child as he or she develops mentally and physically through life. It also has a spiritual element that culminates generations of knowledge and wisdom that has been gifted by our tīpuna.
Te Maunga I kitea is seen as an opportunity to enhance and enrich Te Reo Māori me ōna tikanga through a medium that is relevant and authentic to our Tamariki and whānau. It is through these beliefs and principles that the mana whenua and its rich history are acknowledged and recognised as the wharoa to learning.
Whānau wishing to enrol students in Māori Medium classes follow the school policies to do so. Each request for enrolment will be taken in consideration of a range of factors as per below.
It is ideal that children enrolling as new entrants must have attended Kohanga Reo regularly for at least two years and/or there is a significant adult who is fluent in Te Reo Maori or Maori is the first language spoken in the home
Children must have a significant understanding of spoken Māori commensurate with the level of instruction in the classroom. An oral language test will be administered to ascertain level of understanding.
Children enrolling other than as new entrants must have had bilingual class experience at their previous school and a significant understanding of spoken Māori or have attended Kura Kaupapa and/or Rūmaki classes.
The school reserves the right to relocate a child to mainstream after enrolment if the level of understanding is such that they are identified as not being able to successfully receive instruction in te reo Māori and whose achievement therefore is likely to be hampered.
Any relocation required should be done within two weeks of enrolment.
